Be gracious to me, O Lord,
for I am languishing;
O Lord, heal me, for my bones
are shaking with terror.
My soul also is struck with terror,
while you, O Lord-how long?
Turn, O Lord, save my life;
deliver me for the sake
of your steadfast love.
-Psalm 6:2-4
In the depth of despair, Israel's King David turns to God. Utterly weak, he begs for pity. In the pangs of a troubled soul, he asks for healing and relief.
And he wonders where it is. Why hasn't God answered his pleading prayers? Why must he wait in torment and soul-sickness?
You too may have experienced a dark night of the soul such as David did. Perhaps you can identify with his feelings of abandonment and pain. Maybe you, as well, have begged for God's mercy and understanding.
When you reach those depths, take some comfort in the fact that you aren't alone. David has been there. So have all saints who truly yearn to know and walk with God.
It's part of the process. Accept it as best you can. And keep praying. Morning will come in time.
