The Rev. Dr. Alex Evans is pastor and head of staff of Second Presbyterian Church in Richmond, VA.

Alex Evans grew up in Richmond, VA and Atlanta, GA, and attended Woodberry Forest School (VA).  Alex has a Bachelor's degree from Davidson College (NC), Master's degrees from Union Presbyterian Seminary (Richmond, VA), and Yale University (CT).  He also holds a Doctorate in Ministry from Columbia Seminary in Decatur, GA, with the title of his doctoral project - Pastoral Leadership with Police in Crisis

Since 1988, pastoral ministry has shaped Alex's life. He has served as Pastor/Head of Staff at Pickens Presbyterian Church, Pickens, SC, at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Blacksburg, VA, and currently at Second Presbyterian Church, Richmond, VA.  His faith and passion have led him to local mission endeavors, including work with Habitat for Humanity, and also mission work in Africa: Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.  He has also found himself deeply involved in community life, serving on various boards, working on ecumenical projects, and promoting light and hope. His significant work as Chaplain with the Blacksburg Police Department, especially through and following the tragedy at Virginia Tech, has re-framed much of his life and ministry with those affected by trauma, especially violent trauma. He has written articles, led workshops, spoken at conferences and seminars, and published papers from his experience. He continues to coordinate a major conference in regard to police violence and trauma.  He is Convening Director of Virginia Law Enforcement Assistance Program (VALEAP) - a 501 (c ) 3 program to offer support and counsel to law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Alex is married to Ginger Taylor Evans. They have three grown children, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law and a grandson. Alex and Ginger enjoy golf, tennis, cooking, kayaking, traveling, and time with family and friends.
