The Rev. Elizabeth Mitchell Clement

The Rev. Elizabeth Mitchell Clement is regional director, Calling Congregations, for the Fund for Theological Education. She is a minister in the United Church of Christ.

Rev. Clement is an ordained minister in good standing with the Georgia South Carolina Association of the United Church of Christ. She and her family are members of the First Congregational Church UCC in Atlanta, Georgia. Her husband, Arthur J. Clement, is an architect and lay leader. Their two sons, Arthur and Mitchell, who have been recently launched into young adulthood.

In her "day job," Rev. Clement works for the Fund for Theological Education as Regional Director, Calling Congregations, a new initiative to encourage and support communities of faith that are committed to exploring Christian vocation and the call to ministry with young people. Prior to this, she was Director of the Faith And The City Leadership Institute, a program to prepare and inspire interfaith leaders to work for the common good in the regional Atlanta community.

Rev. Clement is a graduate of Talladega College in Alabama and received a Master of Divinity (cum laude) from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. She also took a professional certification in Translation and Interpreting (French and English) at Georgia State University.

From 2002-2004, Rev. Clement served as Dean of Spiritual and Ethical Life at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, where she also taught Ethics and an introduction to the Bible. She was on leave from Faith And The City where she served as Program Director for three years beginning with its startup. Before that, she had been Associate Minister for Church Life and Education at First Congregational Church.

Rev. Clement comes from a family of church professionals. Both her mother and father are ministers and retired seminary faculty. Growing up, she experienced a variety of worship styles and congregational cultures and learned to love them all. She is devoted to the church and is committed to "equipping the saints" for the work of the church, and to developing excellence in leadership and governance in historically black churches and schools.
