The Rev. Dr. Mark Doty is pastor of Hammond Street Congregational Church UCC in Bangor, Maine.
Mark Allen Doty is a native of Salem, Massachusetts, and is a fifth generation pastor. Educated in the public schools of Lynn, Massachusetts, and Indianapolis, Indiana, he received his Bachelor of Arts with Honors in English from Baker University, Baldwin, Kansas, in 1969. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Boston University School of Theology, Boston, Massachusetts, in 1972 and the Ph.D. degree in English from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, in 1978.
A pastor with full standing in the United Church of Christ, Dr. Doty has been on seven church staffs during his professional career. He is currently the pastor of Hammond Street Congregational Church, UCC, in Bangor, Maine. In addition to his ministerial responsibilities, Dr. Doty has had a wide experience in teaching on the secondary, college and graduate levels.
Dr. Doty is the author of Tell Me Who I Am: James Agee's Search for Selfhood, published the Louisiana State University Press in 1978. He is the father of a son and daughter and has two grandsons.
Dr. Doty has been involved in a number of pursuits ranging from prison ministry to the Walk to Emmaus to singing in a male chorus. Other interests include travel, gardening, antiques, theatre, genealogy, and cooking.
