Bishop L. Bevel Jones

Bishop L. Bevel Jones III was bishop in residence at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, and former bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. He passed away in March 2018.
Bishop Jones was a leader in the United Methodist Church as well as in ecumenical circles for over half a century. A trustee emeritus of Emory University, he was Special Assistant for Development there.
He pastored several churches in the Atlanta area, including St. Mark and First United Methodist Decatur, and then served as resident bishop of the Western North Carolina Annual Conference, based in Charlotte, before officially retiring from the ministry.
In recent years he served on several boards including the Alliance for Christian Media (Day1), filling numerous pulpits, and writing articles as well as a memoir, One Step Beyond Caution.

An iconic leader of the church and of this organization passed away on March 6. Bishop L. Bevel Jones III was a longtime trustee of the Protestant Hour and the Alliance for Christian Media boards, and was a major figure in the United Methodist Church as well as in the Atlanta community, as well as in Western North Carolina where he served as Bishop.
