NEWS: ‘Day 1’ Interim Leadership Team Announced
The Board of Trustees of the Alliance for Christian Media, parent organization of the ‘Day 1’ nationally broadcast ecumenical radio and podcast program, is announcing an interim leadership team to assume day-to-day responsibilities for the organization through the end of 2023, when a new full-time leader will be announced.
Rev. Dr. Katie Givens Kime, current Project Director of the ‘Day 1’ Vital Preaching Program made possible by a grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc., will serve as Interim Executive Director. Most recently Dr. Kime was the Director of Religion and Civic Engagement for the faith-based media non-profit Odyssey Impact. In addition to her sermons broadcast on ‘Day 1’ and published in theJournal for Preachers, Dr. Kime holds a M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from Emory University, and was a member of the Post-Doctoral Teaching and Research Faculty at the Universität Bern in Switzerland in 2017-18. She served as the Associate Pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Ga., for six years. Ordained by the PC(USA), she worked at Marble Collegiate Church and at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, both in New York City. She and her family reside in both Atlanta and Edinburgh, Scotland.
Rev. Dalton Rushing, senior pastor of Decatur First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ga., and a ‘Day 1’ preacher, will serve as an interim guest host until a permanent host is named. Before coming to Decatur First in 2017, he served at North Decatur and Johns Creek United Methodist Churches. Rushing is a graduate of Memphis University School, Birmingham- Southern College, and earned his M.Div. from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, where he is a teaching supervisor in Contextual Education.
Haddon Kime will handle Digital Communications for the ‘Day 1’ ministry, including the Day1.org website, weekly email newsletters, and social media. Kime is a composer, web developer, filmmaker, and social media guru.
Rev. Peter M. Wallace, current President of the Alliance for Christian Media and Executive Producer and host of ‘Day 1,’ announced his retirement earlier this year. He will serve as Consulting Producer for the next several months during the transition. Wallace has been with the organization since 2001. An Episcopal priest, he is the author or editor of 15 books, including “Bread Enough for All: A Day 1 Guide to Life,” containing excerpts from 80 of the most popular ‘Day 1’ and ‘Protestant Hour’ preachers. His latest book of devotional meditations, “A Generous Beckoning: Accepting God’s Invitation to a More Fulfilling Life,” is published by Forward Movement Publishers. Wallace earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va., and his Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Tex. Prior to his ordination as an Episcopal priest he pursued Anglican studies at Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
A Succession Planning Committee of trustees and others, led by Alliance board chair Dr. Jennifer Friday, is currently searching for a new full-time executive director.
‘Day 1’ has been broadcast every week for 78 years, formerly as ‘The Protestant Hour.’ Featuring outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, ‘Day 1’ is currently distributed to 200 radio stations across America and overseas, and the “Day1 Weekly Program” is on all podcast apps and the Day1.org website.
